The Story of ScratchPad

Forest MacKenzie and Joe Franklin talking

May 19th, 2023, 2:30 AM

I woke up from a wild dream: the game of golf transformed into a notepad, each page a new and exciting hole. Enthralled, I got up, grabbed a pen, and started writing everything I saw in this dream. When I put the pen down, it was 4:30 AM. You are seeing the product of that dream: ScratchPad.

My name is Forest MacKenzie. I’m a college student at the University of Louisville, competing at the Division 1 level in Cross Country and Track and Field. I graduated with a degree in Neuroscience and am currently pursuing my MBA. My passion is inventing, especially games. I channel my understanding of the human mind to develop games that challenge you in new and exciting ways.

I believe in the raw value of games and competition. It’s the greatest way to sharpen strategy, decision-making, and execution. Without competition, we would settle. I took my love for competition, my passion for inventing, and my understanding of the human brain to craft the perfect mixture of all three: The ScratchPad.

I hope you all love the game and use it to make lifelong memories. While this game is about fun, the ultimate fun comes from the glory of winning the Golden Tee! This is the game where it’s finally encouraged to let your toxic competitive side out. "Relax, it's just a game" doesn’t apply here. This is the one instance where it is effectively more than a game.

Do whatever it takes, GO FOR IT!

Anyone, Anytime

Made for everyone

Our main goal is to make the game of golf accessible to all. We recognize the barrier of entries that are associated with golf. It is our hope that with ScratchPad we can help lower those barriers and expose more people to the general play of golf. We see ScratchPad as an opportunity to unite. We picture a grandfather playing with his children and grandchildren. We picture the joy and smiles on the people who sink a long putt or make an impossible hole-in-one. We also picture the near misses, the water shots, and the agony of defeat. . ScratchPad was founded in a dream of what could be, and now, here it is!

While we continue to grow and learn how to become the most accessible game possible, we have highlighted below a few of our steps!
